Carrie Rexroat

Hailing from Michigan, Ms. Rexroat currently performs as 2nd Horn in the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. She has held previous positions as Fourth Horn in the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Second Horn in the American Youth Symphony, Fourth Horn in the Debut Symphony Orchestra, and 2nd/4th Horn for the Sarajevska Filharmonija in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina during their 2015-16 season. Rexroat also toured China in 2011 as Associate Principal Horn with the University of Michigan Symphony Band conducted by Michael Haithcock, and while living in Los Angeles, regularly performed with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, the Santa Barbara Choral Society and the San Bernadino Symphony.

Regarding personal accolades, Ms. Rexroat has been successful in multiple solo and chamber music competitions. In 2009, she received the Andrew J. Lum & David R. Julliet Young Artist Scholarship upon winning the Ann Arbor Concert Band Concerto Competition, and in 2014, placed 3rd in the Winds and Brass Division in the Thornton School of Music’s Concerto Competition. Most notably, she and the other members of The Cardinal Winds were Semi Finalists at the 2015 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, Finalists at the 2015 Coleman Chamber Music Competition, and won Grand Prize at the 2015 Plowman Chamber Music Competition.

An advocate for education and outreach programs, she is a two-time recipient of the Max H. Gluck Fellowship, and regularly performed community engagement concerts for underserved communities. She is also a highly recorded artist, and can be heard on albums such as Artifacts, Points of Departure, Placebo: A New Musical, as well as various Motion Picture and Television scores recorded in Los Angeles.

In her downtime, she enjoys being with her family, and has a three year old orange tabby named Milo. She also is the Founder of the storytelling blog A’tudes & Brews, and enjoys connecting with people in one-on-one interviews over coffee. For more information, visit or
